Name giving ceremony in Rai culture

Naming ceremony & Pork Making Culture in Rai:

The Rai community has a rich culture and their community togetherness is unbelievable. They revered each other and shared everything like a family. Like in this video, generally, if any family wants to cut their own pigs, buffalo, beef, wild animals, etc., they invite their neighbouring households to share meat within the community. In the same manner, they prepare pigs in their own traditional pattern. After finishing their work, they fry pork meat (Chhokmasa/Bhutuwa) then they share pork meat (Chokmasa) with Umbak (homemade millet wine). Here, invited family members will receive a meat portion according to their need and the number of family members. If meat is not enough to meet their demand, they share according to their family members. Rai people are very connected to nature and their ancestors. Afterwards, they use banana leaves and other tree leaves as a plate and bowl. Thereafter, they separate from there, informing the house owner, "Hasinchine Molo," or "bye."

Name giving ceremony in Rai culture:

While we know someone is being a mother, then in the mother's name, we have to cook/incubate Umbank. Likewise, after the postnatal naming ceremony, we have to use this Umbak. If you give birth to a baby boy, then a naming ceremony will be conducted in 6 days. Respectively, I have a baby girl in 5 days. In this special ceremony, the priest or head will be senior to the kinship of women, especially. Most often, within Rai culture, women will conduct this naming ceremony. The head woman briefs all the processes and equipment needed to prosecute the ceremony. Simultaneously, we have to prepare a plough, Dhanuskada (Bow Arrow), Umbak, Hengma, cradle, knife, rooster, thread, etc. for boys, subsequently, a handloom comb, Charkha, hen, cradle, thread, Combi (a knife), etc. for girls. Thereafter, the headwoman enchants the incantation to protect the child and mother from the devil and evil spirits.

Some steps to perform incantation;

i.                    Have to kill a cock with enchanting  "Mamang hulla hangchhakokda saarima mamandane"

ii.                  Before entering inside the house, have to perform a spell with the Umbak spilling onto the hot pot in the main door while mother and child enter

iii.                Have to bind thread made into rings around the waist, hands and legs

iv.                 Have to keep that equipment in respective areas

v.                   Combi and Karda should be kept in the cradle

vi.                 Cradle will be a different pattern

As I mentioned above in the steps, every step has its own meaning behind doing this process. I have offered a cock for you to not trouble the mother and child. The reason behind the process no. II is that the head or senior woman should pour Chhanuwa into the hot pot with the masala and oil because we have to offer those women who have lost their lives during pregnancy. We say don't bother us any longer; we've given you your portion.

The reason behind the binding thread around the waist and hands is that you came with a human before you were with God. And another reason is to measure the growth of a baby. Likewise, the pattern of the cradle will be Raja, Ghar, Indra and Indra, Raja, Gharjam. That means Ghar and Indra for son, and subsequently, Raja and Ghar for daughter. In the same way, a knife has been our crucial weapon since the origin of mankind. We have a strong belief that if we have a sword, then the devil is afraid to come and attack. So, we have to keep a knife and combi (Khurpa) in the cradle. If it's a girl, then a combi and a boy's knife, respectively. The cradle will be woven by a special Malingo or Sigane.

In Rai culture, there are several rituals within the life span. Among them, a naming ceremony is the first step of life. Continuously, I will update other rituals too. So don’t forget to subscribe to this blog. The second ritual is the rice feeding ceremony, which is conducted within six months of the birth date.

The country was independent during the reign of Yalambarhang

The country was independent during the reign of Yalambarhang

The origin of the Kirats is believed to be with the origin of the earth. The four races are considered Caucasian, Negro, Dravidian and Mongolian. But, not really Mongolian. This is Kirat breed. There was no investigation into this. Due to the backwardness of Mongolian living, Genghis Khan of Mongolia invaded and destroyed Europe twice. Later, when writing history, the question arose as to who Genghis Khan was. The word Mongolian came into use after Europe documented him as the emperor of Mongolia. From that, the word Mongolian seems to have become popular. In fact, that does not seem to be the case.

That truth is proved by the book 'Himavat Khand' written in Sanskrit. The book refers to the Kirats as people living in a snowy region. The area called the snowy section is very large. In ancient times, the area known as Nak Thepche or Mongolian was considered to be the area of the Glacier or Kirat civilization. What can be proved from this is that the Kirat area was very large. Based on this fact, there must have been many Kirats in the period of history. Because this is civilization. To this day, there are only Limbu people in Nepal who claim to be Kirats, and they are at least trying to save their lives.

The story of Kirat's origin

According to Bahing Kirat Mundhum, the first human of Bahing Kirats was born from the union of earth and sky. She was the first human woman. His name was Ninirengma. She grew older. At the age of 16, she started menstruating. He had a kind of restlessness. She kept running around. The commotion did not stop. Then she reached a hill. The wind was blowing there. She warmed the air. He became cold. Then she became pregnant. She also gave birth to a woman. Her name is Marengma. Marengma also gradually increased. When he reached the age of 16. She asked me how I was born. The mother explained everything to her daughter. She told her daughter that she felt hot, cold, and then pregnant. As soon as she heard her mother's words, she went to the mountain to warm herself.

But, the wind did not come near him. Marengma came back and said to her mother, "I also went to warm the air like you. The wind did not blow beside me and I could not warm the air." He can't come with you. 'After discussing what to do next, his mother ordered him to find a boy and marry him. At that time no one was human because of the murmur of creation. Marengma looked up at the sky and saw Venus shining brightly. Marengma sent an eagle to the sky to convey the news that she would marry Venus. As the eagle flies away from the earth, Venus is too far away. And when the eagle reached there, he found Jupiter sitting there. Garuda proposed marriage to Jupiter sent by Marengma. Jupiter did not believe the eagle's news. And he said - I don't like it, Marengma is much prettier than me. I'm sorry I have a sore throat. However, Garuda insisted that it was you.

Jupiter said - I do not believe, if you say I will come. But Marengma cannot insult me. Remind him well and tell Garuda that I will come for one night only on the night of the full moon. After this promise was made, Jupiter sent a gift of gold kayo eagle to Marengma. When Jupiter said goodbye to Garuda, he told me to make good arrangements for Sirani when I came, so that Marengma would not insult me at all. According to this advice, the eagle returned to earth. He told all the news to Marengma. On the night of the full moon, Venus comes, I have sent you this gift of gold. He told Marengma to make a good bed that night. The same Jupiter was waiting for Venus in Mareng, prepared according to the eagle's previous advice. But, Jupiter came, with a sore throat. Marengma ran away in a rage when she didn't see the boy she liked. Jupiter had already stipulated that I should not be insulted. It does not show the weakness of Jupiter and does not show the weakness of Marengma.

The reporter has not told the truth. After the agreement is violated, Jupiter and Garuda again consult and decide to punish Marengma. Their decision is to dry the water of the earth and make Marengma drink the urine of Jupiter to quench his thirst.

After drying up all the water on Earth, Jupiter urinated on the trunk of a tree in the forest and returned to its orbit in the sky. The water on the earth dried up. Marengma began to suffer from thirst. She walked looking for the cool shade of the forest. One day, while searching for a cool place, she found herself in the shade of a tree. A small fiesta bird came and danced on a branch of a tree. The name of that fiesta is Jhirkili in Bahing language. Marengma's water splashed on my body. I have been thirsty for many days. When I asked Fiesta where the water was, Fiesta showed that he was at the top of a tree. Jupiter had urinated on the same Todka. Marengma drank the same Jupiter's urine water. Then Marengma became pregnant.

Bahing Tumlo or Mundhum believes that this is the origin of Bahing Kirat. Marengma gives birth to a variety of species in nature during childbirth. Plants are born for the first time.

Among them, there is a kandejyar called 'Kadam Chu' in Bahing language, she gives birth. The mother cursed the mother-in-law for scratching her limbs when she was born. That you only grow in the rough. That thornbush is still found only in the rough. In the second stage, Marengma gave birth to animals. Marengma's first son is a tiger, his second son is a monkey and his third son is a man. She tried to marry Venus to give birth to a man who would take care of this world. Unbeknownst to her, Jupiter gave birth to a child. His goal was to give birth to people or Nininapcha. Not much difference between monkeys and humans. So as soon as the monkey is born, Marengma puts a gold garland on the monkey saying that this is the man. Which is called Chichimala. After the monkey was given a gold garland, a better person was born. The mother tricked the monkey and let the brother wear the garland. Later, he lied that he could get food for free from his farm. Even today, when monkeys are found, they shout. Bahing Kirats still believe that the Chichimala was demanded back.

According to Bahing Mundhum, this was the first family in the world to run a household of a mother and three sons. Since tigers and monkeys were lazy, people had to do all the work. One day when a man was going to pick fruit from a branch of a plant, he saw a tiger jumping in the shade. Seeing that he was about to kill himself, the man shot the tiger with his bow. In the evening, mother told people, is your brother a tiger? When I was about to kill him, my mother saved him by chanting. Mother told the three of them to stay together. The days were passing like this. One day, people left their mother, tiger and monkey at home and went to work. When he returned home in the evening, people did not see his mother. The man asked the tiger if he had lost his mother. The tiger said he had gone to fetch water. After the mother did not return for a long time, people went to the well to look for her. Mother was not there. Then the man looked at the tiger and asked him to open his mouth. He saw his mother's hair stuck in the tiger's teeth. It became clear to the people that the tiger had eaten the mother. After this incident, it was suggested that the three of them take a holiday. The advice contributed. There was forest on the part of tiger, neighborhood on the part of monkey and house on the part of man.

This is the first family event or civilization in Bahing Mundhum. Scientist Charles Darwin also linked monkeys to humans. According to him, a single-celled organism evolved from an amoeba to a dinosaur. And as it evolved, it turned into a monkey. The idea that Darwin evolved from apes into humans made Darwin world famous. It remains to be seen when the monkeys around Pashupatinath will transform into humans to prove Darwin's theory.

Nupchu Pokhari and Ghumante Pokhari, Taplejung

This story takes place after we returned from Pangpema Base Camp. Another, our long Kanchenjunga trip. About a gem of a lake probably not seen anywhere in photos, videos, newspaper, television or any other media outlets till now which is easily one of the most stunning lakes in Nepal. Nupchu Pokhari (lake). Khambachen is the gateway to Northern Base Camp of Kanchenjunga in Pangpema. After returning from Pangpema, we stayed a little longer in Khambachenas we had our friend Nupu here and also hoping that the weather might get a bit better. We spent an extra 4 days in Khambachen. Don’t use all the oil, save some for me. It was potato harvest season and everyone was busy in the fields. Nupu and mother and sister had also come from Ghunsa to help in the harvest. All that potato there is just from this freshly dug section of the field. So much potatoes from such a little area. Wow Since peak tourist season was just around the corner, construction work was also in frenzy. The work on new cottages at Nupu had finished. That peak over there, the highest one we call it Mera Peak.

The hills in front of it, as you can see it is all black there was a huge wildfire on it. Me; in our language is fire. Ra; means on the other side so the mountain got its name as it is on the other side of this huge cliff and hill which was engulfed by a massive fire once upon a time. On this side, now that peak is part of the Kanchanjunga range. Kanchanjunga proper is just behind this central black hill. This range consists of big mountains like Kanchanjunga, Yalung Kham, Khambachen and others. But from here, we cannot see them except Kumbhakarna. Kumbhakarna actually has 3 names. In Nepali, Kumbhakarna of course. Another is Jyanu and then Phaktanglung. Kirat people call it Phaktanglung while us Bhot Tibetans call it Khangejyunaa. That one is Sobitonge. The last is Khaburkhangje or just Khabur. There is another mountain behind it called Fulesobi. But we cannot see it from here. We have to go a little way off to see it. These here, this one Sarphu 1. That one is Sarphu 2. Sarphu 4 here. The last one we cannot see. There is a valley called Nuphchu valley. Just beyond the valley is a lake called Nuphchu and the Nuphchu Peak. Behind this hills are Mt. Sarphu 5, 6 and 3. That house over there this is the original house of our ancestors. It is said that our community today all are descendants from this one house. Our great grandparents all were born here apparently. And then the sons started their own families and separated from the main home. And we spread all over. Who lives there now? It is vacant now. Nobody lives there. A grandma used to live there but she is in Ghunsa now. I use it sometimes. The workers constructing my house are actually residing there at the moment. There was no phone signal in Khambachen.

But we were told that a faint signal can be received on a hill across the river. So, visited that hill as well to both take a stroll and update our family and friends. There was no good trail to climb that hill. When we somehow navigated to the top, we were taken by surprise. Just below the foot of the hill on the other side was a small pretty lake. When we asked around, nobody knew what this lake was called. Or more precisely that this lake doesn’t have a name yet. So we are in love with this lake and this view. So, for now, for those of you watching this, we are going to call it Ghumante (traveller) lake. If you also ever come to Khambachen and spend a rest of day here which we highly recommend doing. Please visit this lake the Ghumante Pokhari. A very nice view from here of Mt. Kumbhakarnu or Jannu. And these two mountains, stunning view. Just make sure to wear warm clothes. The wind here is freezing. The reflections of mighty Kumbhakarna, Sobitonge and Khaburkhangje in the lake made it seem surreal. We had seen some clouds coming from the direction of Ghunsa. The moment the clouds came upto where we were, it covered everything so rapidly. Everything changed drastically. It is said the weather and temperature of mountains in unpredictable.

Things can change so drastically within a second. The cold has also increased so much. When the lake was covered by fog, we descended down. There was a yak shed just at the bottom of the hill. We spent some time there. When we reached Khambchen, we found that the Limbu construction workers were playing shot put. We learned that in the mountain areas of Taplejung, Limbu community people were famous for their skills as carpenters, masons and artisans. Be careful. You might slip and fall. This river that you see flowing past our Khambachen valley, if you follow it to the mountains there is a big valley, so much bigger than Khambachen. At the end of that valley where even the trail ends, if somehow we can cross that over, we reach a place called Yangma. If you reach Yangma, you step into Tibet of course. Even though there is no trail, at the end of that valley there are two big lakes. This river also actually originates from those lakes. Since the lake is named Nupchu, we call this river Nupchu river. Nup means west as in direction and chu means water in our language. So, Nupchu means a water body on the west side. And that is how the lake got its name. After Nupu told us about Nupchu Lake, we planned on going to see it the next day.

Committed suicide going Facebook Live

Suicide

Today, I felt heavy-headed due to many people are choosing suicide as the ultimate solution to their lives. From Chaitra, this trend is rampant or emerging every day. We say timid only does the suicide, but actually timid doesn’t commit suicide. It takes much courage to commit. One of the best solutions is to listen to them without judgement. Many people are committing suicide due to misanthropic, this means humans are being savaged these days.

Recently, two ladies committed suicide on Facebook Live. Many others committed suicide during the lockdown as well. Especially, youngsters are plunge into killing themselves. If this trend continued for a long period, the nation will be desolate soon. Why people commit suicide? Who are prone to suicide? Suicide is preventable?

People commit suicide because he or she feels helpless and no any way out in her/his life.

Suicide means a cry for help!

Like below story;

All my dreams are scattered like a broken glass. Life is all about struggle. But is there any end to this struggle. I wonder why life is so harsh with me I am tired and I‘ve started giving up slowly, I have been hiding those tears in my loneliness and just faking a smile throughout my suffering. My eyes tells my stories many times simply in support of the tears. A new dawn and a new day but the same old story, uncertainty and endless fear. Oh how saddening are these days that I just wish to get into my shell once again such disheartening are these thoughts, I should just hold within. I've failed in life it just follows me everywhere, but I know this is not right, broken and empty I am, these thoughts haunted me with so many sleepless night. In the pitch dark of the night I fly away to my land of dreams, that is where the answer to my identity is, it seems. In that silence I keep looking for the ray of hope. Chaotic are thoughts and feelings Wish the misery is no more. Even though I have walked on new paths every dawn the question to my identity remains the same I am thinking, may be trying to, but not necessarily succeeded, these thoughts are endless and I just keep suffering in these thoughts.

I wish to go somewhere far away from this chaos and start new all over again. Hope my pain will all disappear along with me then. I am sick and tired of this meaning less life. I tried a thousand times to pull it up but it was love so it had to be messy. Short lived the relation but the impact was hurtful, I can only curse the day I loved on my losing cause. Yes I Failed and with no Hopes, I accept it happily that I am Loser and my life is worthless. All those dreams shall live forever remain in my heart, I will leave only with these disappointments, All these disappointments may vanish once I Die, Little are chances those dreams will remain forever once I breathe my last. There’s no meaning to my life. I will live once I am dead and free from this suffering and this world.

So that is me, I have died thousand time in my thoughts and imagination. I know it's not a solution to any problems. The journey after death is happy or sad will remain unanswered. No one comes back and shares the story.

No doubt, Life is a struggle ups and down are part of it, Just try to stay calm, Won't say much but it will hurt a little less. The nature of suffering and the struggle of life varies from person to person. There are many obstacles throughout the journey. Life keeps challenging you. People have gone through terrible phases in this journey of life and its struggle. I was almost a victim to it. But I changed myself at the right time. I came out of it stronger with a never give up attitude. No one can choose the path of change for me. Only I can determine the way to overcome. I wonder why does the people around the victim fails to read what is going through their loved ones. There may be thousand who are suffocated. Let's listen to their battle within. When an Artist committed suicide in the neighbouring country. I will Listen, Share to Me , Lets Talk The social platform of or celebrities were full of these tags I hope not a single message of such depressed soul is left unread and unanswered in their inbox. I believe they haven't given any false hope. Depression and suicidal tendency is very real. Be strong enough to overcome it. Stay determined and keep following your dreams. There No Place Better.

For the sake of country...

For the sake of country

Country is our first identity when I am out of my country. My name will be secondary when I am out of country. We may differ in our political and philosophical issues but for the sake of our nationality, we never compromise. Our country is my dignity, so we can sacrifice whatever obstacles come, we can’t bear hegemony of any countries. We are not gullible; loyalty is our identity that is within our gene. So we never claim others’ territory that means we are not weak. It is an ample example of loyalty. Our Gurkhas soldier regiment is one of the epitomes of loyalty and honesty.

So we humbly want to inform Indian people, Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh are not yours territory, trust yourselves and go through the history to verify the areas. Don’t go blank without knowing the truth. Some Indians are saying Nepal is puppet of China but remember one fact that Nepal was never puppet and colonised by any countries, so Nepal is highly sovereignty country in the world. Nepal is existed since the human evolution started. Some Indians said that Manisha betrayed us; we gave her shelter, fame, position etc. but she pissed off. Even if you are Indians and know about the fact then you also speak what Manisha spoke obviously. So enlighten the truth massage all around the world.

According to the Sugauli treaty in 2 Dec, 1815 and ratified by 4 Mar, 1816, far west from Kali River (after Kali River) belongs to India. That is why its fountain is Limpiyadhura, it flows through Limpiyadhura; that means above mentioned places are not Indian territories. And we know none of neighbouring counties of India is satisfied with the activities of Indians. Indian activities’ regarding neighbouring counties is not acceptable and with the due respect we request you, be a kind and good neighbour for the sake of good foreign relation and policy. Otherwise we can’t tolerance the hegemony of your policy and your decline and self-demise is nearby.

What next… Nepal government should play an important role for prosperous of country. Strategically we should be self-dependency and we should export our goods and products over the world. We must amend the constitution and implement better policy for all the people.  Only competent and capable person should take over the position of executive and leadership. Currently, they are doing work and being leader only for take bribery. No creativity and implementation under their department, they are incumbent the position only.

तुलिगाडा को देश नेपाल।
Indians are freely encroaching on our territory and history, but you are being oblivion or silence on your eyes instead of face them. So broaden your mind, not only your eyes. Don’t run behind hype rather go through the evidences and truth.
Personally, I support to KP Oli for his some incredible tasks he has done. One is remapped of Nepal including Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura in our territory. These areas belong to Nepal since its treaty, but some leaders raped his mother. Another he denied Indian embassy to talk about dispute issues and encroachment of our territory and history. These are the significant tasks which no one dare to speak about it.

Even he has many pitfalls governing the nation, but these above mentioned tasks, which he complied with implementation is appreciable. I request all the leaders and people, dare to speak if anything that is true and anyone dares to speak wrong, immediately correct them. Otherwise stay away if you don’t know nothing regarding the topic and issue. It is an excellent way to represent you as a smart man/woman, but if you speak without savvy, it will definitely jeopardy to self.

Province no 1 name entitled ‘Kirant’

Province no 1 name entitled ‘Kirant’

Kirant is an ancient people with flourishing traditional and cultural era. Property elevate poverty so it is better to keep name Kirant Province than Koshi and Sagarmatha. Because there are many reasons and benefits behind Kirant Province. Kirant is not religion, it is a civility, and we must preserve it. This is our property, it shines our country’ dignity and sovereignty. If we kept name Kirant, then tourism will enrich in this province even around Nepal. We can clarify them from origin to till (culture, tradition, living etc).

Kirant itself behold a huge history of Nepal. Sagarmatha and Koshi they are still existing and people are aware of these names and they will exist for a long era. But it does not exist yet, Kirant name, it is about to vanish from Nepal. So, we must preserve and bring it to existence. Sagarmatha and Koshi also ornament/property of us at the same level we must exist Kirant together. It will be ruined if we ostracize Kirant from our Country.
When we go through the history of Nepal, it refulgent with the pride and dignity which we are proudly saying to anyone. Kirant has a long history which appreciated by many dynasties and books. So we must know that Kirant is not religion, there is no word ‘religion’ in Kirant lexicon. If anyone thinks it is religion, then he\she is wicked. If you proud to be Nepali, then you must feel privileged to own abide Kirant. We Kirant people still we worship nature and ancestors. So we have no religion, only traditions and cultures.
Therefore, I request all the Nepalese people who have fathom love towards our country please go for lobbying Kirant province.

Appeal!

I read news yesterday, 'patient died cause of insufficient ventilator,' in BPKIHS, Dharan. We have been hearing this types of news from long ago. But why are we Dharane people not serious about this issue? Almost Daharane people are plunged into drugs and whoever provides a set of snacks and petrol. In every corner of the cafe, people talk about fighting, drugs and hooligan. When will we stand with our deviance cognition?
In the name of facility, we have a Hospital BP only. There are no other facilities like government offices and airport. We want to lose BP hospital too? Why are we unable to handle this hospital? Are we visionless? if not then we have to pressurize to the administration for the quality service and increase the volume of the ventilator. Where everyone from the lower grass root patient can get access to ICU department. Many patients are dying because of lack of access towards the intensive care unit. So we have to awaken from catnap to brighten our vision of sight for betterment of the hospital and coming generation. We have to raise our voice against the corruption and political encroachment within such a sensitive area.

Therefore, I request all the people who hail from Dharan don't run behind hype and faff which you are doing a moment before and now on broaden your cognition then take a step for ameliorate.
