Bantawa language is widely spoken languages among Rai people, an important subgroup of the Kiranti group of Tibeto-Burman languages. This dictionary, based on material obtained in the context of the Linguistic Survey of Nepal, concise though it is, stands out as the most voluminous of the few dictionaries and word lists for Rai languages that were hitherto published with English equivalents of native forms provided. The fact that both a Bantawa-English and an English-Bantawa part give access to the forms makes the book an important research tool for specialists in Kiranti languages as well as for scholars concerned with Tibeto-Burman and Nepal studies in general.

Chisapani Hiking

Sujan Rai
Chisapani Hiking is one of the utmost thrilling and a night stay hiking trip platform leading you to the site very near to the Kathmandu Valley. And if you have more time you can extend 3 days hiking till Nagarkot. The first stretch of the trek is an uphill stride through Sundarijal Shivapuri National Park. Chisopani trekking is classic to get the first time an experience of Nepali culture in a very short holiday. This trek is also right to get away from the jostling and crowding city life of Kathmandu towards the lap of nature and mountain surrounded landscape. Chisopani hiking is also well-known for witnessing a grand view of the sunrise. The famous mountain ranges that can be seen while being on this trek are Mt. Everest, Langtang, Manaslu and Annapurna.

Linking the best of nature with some typical local life, elegant Himalayan views, fascinating sunset and unearthly sunrise from Chisapani and Nagarkot, this hike makes for an epitome vacation in a matter of three days. The trip starts with a short drive to the Sundarijal bus stand, a standard hangout and hectic picnic spot in the north of Kathmandu. Within the walkway, falling inside the confines of Shivapuri National Park, this is a place of cool shades, tall trees, beautiful streams and tranquil atmosphere — all in remarkable contrast to the noise and crowd of the city. Leaving aside a few expenditures on the way, the hiking trail passes through the forest to Chisapani. The village also commands a lovely view of the great sector of the Himalayan range, which emits an unearthly glow in the setting sunlight. On the main route, we can see the Tamang community; we can taste Tamang dishes within the trek. When we reached the top of the village there are two ways to go for Chisapani, one is straight and another is uphill. On the routeway, we can outlook the meadow and pond. We can be lost around the pond and meadow for a while. Chisapani is 1st night stay of the Hiking.

Next day, All along the forest through Shivapuri National Park with only occasional expenditures, we reach Nagarkot, the most standard vantage point to the east of Kathmandu. In clear weather, a comprehensive portion of the Himalayas, starting from the Dhaulagiri in the west to Mt Everest and Kanchanjunga in the far East attach your eyes to them. Wake up early in the morning to view the sunrise. Only now do you feel the full vigour of the charming glow the Himalayan range displays, when the fresh rays of the rising sun strike it. Finally, you can either choose to take a hike to Changunarayan, The trek further continues towards Changu Narayan. The temple is a historical one and is also enlisted in the "World Heritage Sites". The sculpture and arts of this temple are really picturesque.

 Day wise trek:

This trek starts from the northeastern outskirt of Kathmandu. The first stretch of the ramble is an uphill walk through the rhododendron forest of the Shivapuri national park. After 4-5 hrs of the walk, we reach the almighty Mountain Sight point of Chisapani from where we can have handy sight of a lengthy range of Eastern Himalayas from Langtang to Gaurishankar Ranges.

On the second day, we stride past some ethnic villages and mostly through an opaque and beautiful forest, listening to the birds chirping and enjoying the view of the Himalayas. In the winter months we sometimes even meet wild fowls and sometimes even deer. The two days trek ends at Sankhu where we catch our vehicle for Kathmandu. Otherwise, for 3 days hike, we continue to Nagarkot, another famous Mountain Viewpoint on Kathmandu valley, stay overnight there and the next day trek to Changunarayan and drive back to Kathmandu.

Therefore, if you have a time of 3 days; you can trek Chisapani alongside Nagarkot too but you have 2 days then Chisapani and back on the way Sankhu only.
